Firewalls are great, they protect our networks from unwanted traffic, hackers, and malicious attempts to steal our information, they can even thwart off a Cryptolock attack (read: someone makes you pay for your own files).
There is a certain hot issue around access to firewalls to make changes. It can't be insecure enough that your average joe can join your wireless and tweak the settings, but for most companies, it doesn't need to be Fort Knox either. China, on the other hand, has such a secure firewall preventing access to even its creator.
