What if instead of the bulky desktop box that you have always known, you could have a sleek, light weight machine that is easily portable if need be, but still has more than enough power for anything you throw at it, including light gaming?
Intel is out to make that a reality with it’s new Skull Canyon NUC (Next Unit of Computing) model, a power-packed device about the size of 2 standard DVD cases stacked on top of one another.
The downside to this machine is that for the $600ish price tag you have to provide your own SSD, RAM and OS, which can easily make a $1000 investment after all is said and done. Considering the specs though, that is not a bad price point, seeing as it features an SD card slot, 4 USB 3.0 connections (one of which is high voltage connection for charging mobile devices), Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, Thunderbolt3/ USB-C, Mini Displayport, and 2 3.5 mm headphone jacks, one of which support minijack to optical cables. In addition, internally it has 2 M.2 conections and supports up to 32 GBs of DDR4 RAM, and can be configured to have an Intel Core i7 processor.
