My Kingdom for a USB 3 port!
As many of you have found out, while the 2016 Macbook Pro is a great little machine, there is a startling lack of USB 3 ports. If you, like me, like having at least two ports in which to plug in your Nerf USB-Powered Rocket Launcher and your backup drive at the same time, well, you are out of luck.
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports), and MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports) come equipped with Thunderbolt 3 port but no USB 3.0 ports.
But I want to use my old USB devices!
if you try to plug that Nerf Rocket launcher into them you will be trying for a long long time.
It is almost mandatory now to purchase a USB-C to USB adapter, or buy a port replicator in order to plug in mice, printers, coffee warmers, cameras, smart phones, etc.
Now Apple does have their own Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter you can order. However, the price for a couple of them might add up, and the port replicator might start looking like the better purchase.
Our recommendation is for the OWC Thunderbolt 2 dock. For $199 it is a great deal. You can run two 4k displays, 5 USB 3.1 devices, a Firewire legacy storage device, and you have two more Thunderbolt 2 ports in which to play with.
Regardless of which direction you go, just know: The new Macs need adapters to run the old USB.
